Blog Love: 100 Followers Giveaway Winner! And a Blog Award!

We finally have a winner! I apologize for the delay- hosting a giveaway while moving states is quite the task. In all honesty, I didn't end up using random.org because I discovered you have to pay to use the site. I used took the good old fashion route and had my partner pull a name from a hat! And the giveaway goddess selected......

Vijaya from Fierce Neritude!

Congrats, and thank you for supporting my blog! I have sent you an email- you have 48 hours to claim your prize.

Also, a week or so ago the lovely Sidney from Savvy Sidd Speaks bestowed upon me the One Lovely Blogger Award! Thank you!

The Rules:
1. Thank the person that gave you the award and link back to him/her
2. Post seven things about yourself
3. Pass the love onto 15 bloggers
4. Let them know they received an award

I have done a few of these, so let's see if I can think of 7 new things to share about myself!
1. I have never had a cavity (knock on wood!)
2. I just bought a juicer and have been juicing up a storm. How do you all feel about some health and juice related posts?
3. My new apartment has a pool, so I have been swimming everyday, if not twice a day!
4. I am a huge book-lover. I have two full 7 foot bookshelves, and that is after selling a few boxes!
5. My first concert was Tom Petty when I was 6 years old, and I still love Tommy P.!
6. I really love documentaries- some current favorites are Murderball and Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.
7. In the same vein, I also love reality TV- Intervention, Jersey Shore, RuPaul's Drag Race, etc.

And I pass on this award t the following bloggers. Check 'em out!:

Lots of Love: Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in Snappy Sorbet & A Blog Award!

In my recent CVS haul I picked up this little gem. Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in Snappy Sorbet is a creamy orange coral with a subtle touch of silver shimmer. From the bottle I expected it to be more of a true orange creamsicle shade, but on the nail it pulls a little bit more coral. Snappy Sorbet looks to me like a more vibrant, saturated version of Zoya Willow. Given the huge coral trend this season, I am really surprised I haven't seen this awesome polished blogged about. I know many don't like the wide Insta-Dry brushes, but I actually prefer them and the formula on this was lovely. This is easily one of my new favorite polishes; I am pretty obsessed with it, and in my opinion it rivals all of the polishes I listed in my coral fever nails post.

Also, the wonderful ct1980 at I Color Outside The Lines blessed me with the Stylish Blogger award. I very recently did this tag (see here), so I'm not going to do it again but I do tag all of you!

The Rules
1. Link back to the person who gave it to you.
2. List 7 things about yourself that you haven't mentioned before
3. Tag 7 people and let them know you've done so!

Stylish Blogger Award!

I was recently gifted with the Stylish Blogger Award by the lovely Joann at LuckyDuckyLoves! Thank you so much!

7 Things About Myself
1. My favorite season is Fall. Even though we are just in the beginning of summer, all I can think of is Halloween, crunchy leaves, pumpkin pie, vampy nail polish, and walks outside in sweaters!
2. The author that has had the most profound impact on me is Dorothy Allison. A feminist scholar and fiction writer, Allison's voice is raw, poetic, sensual, and sharp as she grapples with themes of sexuality, identity, poverty, and family. She has written feminist scholarship that has been important to my own political and ideological thinking, but her poetry and non-fiction work is just as wonderful. I highly recommend her novel Cavedweller to everyone. If it weren't already clear how much I adore her, I have a Dorothy Allison quote tattooed on my ankle that reads "Change when it comes cracks everything open."
3. I am not much of an athlete now, but in high school and undergrad I was a pretty fierce lacrosse player. I still have my sticks and I play for fun from time to time, but I really miss competing and being a part of a team.
4. I am a bit of a foodie. I don't have much of an interest in becoming formally trained or learning how to cook gourmet; I am just an avid home cook who really loves to try out recipes and, of course, eat! I make a mean chili, and plan making some lemon poppy seed muffins later today.
5. My entrance into feminism was through Riot Grrrl, a genre of feminist punk music performed by and for young women. Riot grrrl's heyday was in the 1990's, so by time I got into it most of the bands were already defunct. But nonetheless, it was really powerful for me to hear other young women using their voice and fighting for visibility. Kathleen Hanna is still one of my favorite people ever.
6. In the same vein, I got really into zines in undergrad. Zines are independently produced and distributed magazines, and can be about anything. I still love zines, but don't write them as often. However, every time I teach I assign my students a zine project in place of a final exam.
7. Two years ago, all of my makeup fit into one small draw-string bag! On the typical day I wore eyeshadow, mascara, concealer, pressed powder, and lip balm. I didn't have brushes so I applied my eyeshadow (I maybe had 6 different colors) with my finger. Clearly, a lot has changed!

My Top 10:
  1. Urban Decay Naked Palette- It is almost cliche by now, but I do adore this palette.
  2. Revlon ColorStay Foundation in Medium Beige- Best foundation I have found for my oily skin.
  3. Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum- A dab of this in my foundation provides both a touch of luminosity and serious oil control. This is my miracle product!
  4. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Tipsy- Matte coral orange, loaded with the miracle amazonian clay that balances my skin.
  5. Urban Decay Primer Potion- Eye primers seemed like an unnecessary product until I tried them. I haven't compared this to other primers, but UDPP has never failed me.
  6. NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk- Perfect base for most any eye look.
  7. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Coralberry- Although Smoked Peach, Siren, and Blase Apricot are not close behind! This is my most versatile coral lippie.

  9. Zoya Casey- A delicious, deep vampy plum polish.

Liebster Blog Award

The lovely Amber over at  Lipgloss and Flipflops awarded me with the Liebster Blog Award! Go pay Amber some love- she runs a great blog :) It feels really great to be recognized, even in this small way, particularly since I only started this blog 2 months ago and didn't really think anyone would read it.  Thanks for the support and comments everyone!

The Liebster Blog Award, from what I know of it, was created to show appreciation to smaller blogs. This award helps spread the word about notable blogs worth reading with fewer than 300 followers. Although one can choose not to pay it forward, those awarded are encouraged to award 3 to 5 other small blogs in turn to help spread the word about lesser known quality blogs.

Here is who I pass it on to. Check them out!
  • Jill at Just Peachy- Jill is the first blogger I ever communicated with, and she always leaves thoughtful and sweet comments on my posts. Her blog is full of FOTDs, love for indie cosmetics and beauty related DIY projects.
  • Gracie at Grace & Beauty- I just started reading this blog. Grace is full of good ideas, and has an awesome sense of humor. I actually laugh out loud while reading some of her posts!
  • Amanda at Glitter and Toucans- I love the name of this blog, and Amanda always delivers high quality images and really gorgeous EOTDs.
  • Courtney at Those Graces- I am not positive how many followers Courtney has, but it is fewer that 300 on Bloglovin' so I am counting her in. Courtney is a feminist fashion and beauty blogger who delivers insightful, thought provoking pieces and high quality posts on makeup and fashion. Finding her blog was a big deal to me because she proved that 10 you can seamless integrate discussions of feminism, fashion, and beauty, and 2) some people might actually want to read it!
